I was at court today. I hasten to add that I was there as social worker to a service user who was the defendant. It is funny how old knowledge and skills suddenly flood to the fore at times like this. It must be ten years since I last worked in a court, yet my old Probation Officer skills were still sharp. Unexpectedly I was asked to address the court about a matter and they found my input to be most useful.
As a bonus I saw an old friend from Probation days, Carol. Not much time for catch-up but it was nice to see her.
It was my last day in this assignment so it was quite a strange day in many ways not least because I was at my desk at a quarter to eight this morning. So, a long day! After lunch I left, handing in my keys and pass. I spent the afternoon in Beckenham, doing some business and eating cake and Coffee in a coffee shop. It was a real chill and I feel the better for taking the downtime. Thank God its Friday!!!!
Next week I am busy with my consultancy for FARA, and have been spending the last three weeks putting together a programme of visits for the team from Bucharest. FARA is a small charity that works in Romania and we are looking at services for Learning Disabled young adults. We will be visiting, among other places the L'Arche community in Lambeth. More about L'Arche another day.
