Last night I was the subject of something called "Corporate Hospitality". I was taken to the O2 Arena for dinner, drinks and the Duran Duran concert! Yes you heard right. Simon Le Bon and Duran Duran are doing a world tour and last night they appeared on their 'home turf' - London.
This was my first visit to the Millenium Dome and my first experience of "Stadium Rock". Yes, I confess that I have never had the pleasure/experience before.
Simon gave us a good show as they whizzed through the Duran Duran songbook. Dry Ice, epilepsy inducing strobe lighting, bright lights, coloured lights, lasers and very loud (VERY LOUD) rock music. Lots of strutting, wailing guitar solos and "guitar as substitute penis" stuff. People were up on their feet for most of the show, rocking and gyrating and waving arms about. Lots of men and women "of a certain age" reliving their youth (lets face it; Planet Earth, a big DD hit, was released in 1981). I have to say that Simon hid his age well and was almost athletic at times.
I never was a Duran Duran fan myself and I am not won over to their style of music today but it was jolly good fun. I could get used to Hospitality like this.
